Anchor Bytes

"Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham is a forum where one comes face to face with harsh realities and the incidents that are presented in it isn't something that one hears or reads about at second hand, but life caught in the raw. You hear people's troubles directly from them. It is an everyday challenge where no one knows beforehand what is going to occur. It is dealing with human emotions where you need to be unmoved and impassive, whilst controlling others' emotions.

People come to this show with a lot of expectations and often with a predetermined mind. In such situations the anchor has struggle a bit to get them to open up; in some cases one has to even become harsh to break down their inflexibility.

The youngsters of today are impatient. Like ready-made food and ready-made items, you can't find ready-made relationships. You have to work hard to make it successful. Marriage is not a bed of roses. A lot of effort –sacrifice, compromise and patience- has to be put in for any marriage to last.

During my research days, I met the renowned social worker and activist, Dr. Sunitha Krishnan. She told me that atrocities against women and their immoral trafficking is on the rise in the country and that the majority of cases are from the south. Kerala has a bad track record in these crimes against women, but we are far better than our immediate neighbors Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Child abuse and trafficking is the lowest in Kerala but it sometimes seems as though we head the list. This is because every incident of crime which occurs here is reported without fail. This is not being done in any other state. There are so many such cases taking place in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, but most of them never come to court. There are hundreds of divorce cases brought to the family courts in Kerala which are regularly reported in media. But in our neighbourhood, thousands get separated without any one knowing about it.

It is the alert, proactive media which to some extent is holding back evil in the state. We intend to bring about the same sort of participation in our show. Silence cannot be a solution anymore; it only emboldens the one tempted to do a crime.

The programme doesn't intend to defame or insult anyone. But the problems which are brought to us have to be discussed with everyone concerned and related to it. That is the only way we can reach an impartial conclusion. What our panel advises both parties in a case is never a compulsion, merely a viable option. The final decision is totally upto them. There are many who are ignorant of the court's proceedings. For them, Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham offers a feasible alternative".
