Case :  JUSTIN JOHN - ANILARANI ( Follow up )

Case Summary
This was a usual case of a wife running away with another man. But unlike always, this time it wasn't for love. Anila Rani, the runaway wife of Justin John, had eloped with a stranger who had been blackmailing her over phone. It is to be noted here that the eloping was not by force. Anila, taking her younger daughter along, had gone away with the blackmailer Radhakrishnan. In most of such cases, the husband who is the shattered being ends up abandoning the wife. But here, this case sowed a seed of hope.

Case History as narrated by Justin John
When Justin John brought the case to Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham, his wife Anila Rani (31) and their daughter Jessy John (5 ½) were missing for almost a year. As the suspicion was, which turned true later, she had eloped with one Radhakrishnan Nair on August 2, 2010. Justin John and his elder son Jerin John were left surprised and shocked by the sudden eloping.

A graduate, Anila had been teaching in a kindergarten since 2007. To continue in the job, she required a pre-primary Teacher's Training Course Certificate. Thus in 2008, she joined in for the pre-primary certificate course at IEIT at Nedumangad. After passing the course, she began working as a trainee at the IEIT centres at Nedumangad, Katakkada and Ayurveda College. Displeased by the negligible amount she earned out of this, she quit the job and took to household activities. It was then that Dileep, the manager at IEIT, assuring her of a better salary, re-employed her. Anila joined the IEIT computer centre at Katakkada. In between, the manager asked her to deposit a sum of Rs.1 lakh with the organization as a security deposit to assure her job. Seeing no other way, Anila, without the knowledge of her parents or her husband, gave her gold ornaments to Dileep to mortgage.

On August 1, 2010, not finding the ornaments in place, Justin questioned Anila and the whole story was then narrated to him. A frustrated Justin commanded Anila to bring back the gold the following day itself to which she promised she would. Justin had no idea that there were different plans building up in Anila's mind.

The following day, that is on August 2, 2010, Anila as usual set-off for work. On the way, she fetched Jessy from her school reasoning that she is going to get medicine for her daughter. The computer centre was her last known halt from where she headed back but never reached home.

A missing complaint was filed at Vilappilsala Police Station on August 3rd and a letter each was sent to Vanitha Commission, the Chief Minister and the DGP. On August 12th, a Habeas Corpus petition was filed at the High Court. Despite all these, till the case was later brought to and telecast in Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham, no news could be traced of Anila and Jessy.

Based on the revelations from Anila's work place, there were speculations that she had eloped with Radhakrishnan Nair who was a mechanic at the Kattakada bus depot. A staff of the computer centre reported that Anila regularly received and returned calls to a number that was found out to be Radhakrishnan's.

Anila's parents, Balan and Omana, however had difficulty in believing that their daughter could have taken such a step.

Anila's Version
Both the runaways were caught from Idukki and with Police support, brought back to Thiruvananthapuram. In the follow- up telecast of the case, Anila confesses through the programme that she had been trapped. She came to this realization only after being brought back and produced before the court. She said that after eloping with Radhakrishnan, she had been leading a comfortable life with him for the past one year without the hint of a problem. It was her parents who narrated the entire truth about Radhakrishnan including the cases registered against him prior to this one.

Anila's places the reason of her eloping to be the disquieting threats from Radhakrishnan added to her fear of getting isolated in her husband's family in terms of trust. Though she agrees that during her stay with Radhakrishnan, she had come emotionally close to him.

Overtaken by guilt, Anila was reluctant to return to her married life with Justin, especially at her in-laws house, fearing rejection, though she wished for a chance to undo her mistake.

Justin John eased the decision with his unearthly kind character. He not only forgave Anila but also agreed to shift with her and begin their united life altogether again.

As for Radhakrishnan, he has not yet returned to his home. His wife and mother, who refused to participate in the TV court discussion, have informed us that they would accept him if he returns.

KIJ's Verdict
1. Under the mutual consent of both, Justin John and Anila Rani shall hereafter live together as husband and wife.

2. Anila shall stay with her mother until the schools this year are over. Later the couples and their children shall come together as a household.
